"Films". Unit 5

 Coco



Before to start with this Project (2), it's important to highlight that during all these projects' units, teacher plays the trailer of each one of the films.
Unit 5 is about Coco’s film; the trailer will be displayed the first day that starts the Unit. However, the teacher recommends watching the film at home, those who watch it, get points for his/ her group thought Class Dojo App.


Lesson 1 (Warmer). Analyse this sentence. Teacher writes on the blackboard this sentence 'One cannot deny who one is meant to be.' - Ernesto de la Cruz (Coco), students debate the meaning of this sentence.

Lesson 1 (Activity 1). Coco’s survey. 
Coco’s survey. Questionnaire about Coco’s dream, students fill it. Whole Class Activity, the teacher reads one of them, in groups try to guess the pupil who wrote it (open activity).  
These are the questions that the teacher is going to give them, they have 15 minutes to answer them.
As you know, Miguel (Coco’s grandsome) worked very hard to achieve his dream as a musician. He never stopped trying it. Now it’s your turn, answer these questions to know if your dreams are big enough for you.



Lesson 1. (Activity 2) Film critic. In groups of five, students pretend to be reviewers. They should complete the worksheet about the film and record themselves by using Chromebook camera (different roles) and upload it to the classroom Vlog.





Lesson 1 (Conclusion). Edpuzzle.
Students watch this video about Coco’s film and answer the questions teacher has prepared for them, work in pairs.

Lesson 2 (Warmer). Flash- Hats
One student has a hat on his/her head, he/she must guess the instrument which is on the head by asking questions.

Lesson 2 (Activity 1) What can you hear? Hear different instruments and write them.  

Lesson 2 (Activity 2). Scavenger Instruments. Teacher explains instrument families by giving examples, learners try to find the instruments hidden in the class and classify them into families.  

Lesson 2 (Activity 3). What do we know about these instruments? Each team has three instruments, describe them (Chromebooks (ICT)), template is provided, display them on the class.




Lesson 3 (Warmer). Ball Toss.
Teacher shows on the IWB a timetable where it appears different people who practice different activities, teacher pass the ball to one student and ask him/her a question about a specific person and sport.
For example: Does Lucy do ballet? They must answer: Yes, always.

Lesson 3 (Activity 1) Grammar Project. 
Do you…? Yes (always, often, sometimes), No (never).1. Sport Timetable. In pairs, ask questions about a specific sport and person, by using the template. Roles are changed.

Lesson 3 (Activity 2) Coco’s Hearthstone Game. 
In groups, play this game following the rules, to practice the previous structures.
Rules: Each one of the members of the group gets a card, at the same time one of them, put the card in the middle of the table up (adverd of frequency), if what is written on the card corresponds to the adverd of frequency, that person gets alll the cards, if there is a draw between two classmates nodoby wins. The game finishes when all the cards are gone and the person who has the most number of cards wins.

Lesson 4 (Conclusion). /θ/.  Buzzer Phonics. In pairs, teacher says different words, pupils push the buzzer when they hear the previous sound.

Lesson 4 (Warmer). Roll the dice.In groups (five teams with five members), students have a template with words that contain this sound /θ/, throw the dice and choose a word, make up a crazy and short story.

Lesson 4. Speaking Record Time Project. 
Group Work, teacher prepares questions about instruments and adverbs of frequency. Groups have ten cards (potions and spells), they can use them against another team. The group that has been talking in English the most will get more clues to discover the hidden character.

Lesson 4 (Conclusion). What comes next?

Teacher hides five pictures around the class related to Christmas, students must find them and guess the theme of the next lesson.


Lesson 5 (Warmer). Brainstorming

First, teacher does a brainstorming getting all the students’ curiosities, then they elaborate the letter telling everything about our festivity and theirs.  

Brainstorming (an example of children doubts):

WHAT DO WE WANT TO WRITE ABOUT OUR CHRISTMAS?

-        Traditional Food during this festivity.

-        Special clothes during New Year Eve…

-        Special Days.

-        I order my presents to…

WHAT DO WE WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THEIR CHRISTMAS?

-        Music

-        Decoration

Lesson 5 (Activity 1). Welcome Back.

After Christmas holidays, learners bring different Christmas’ pictures (instructions given before) which show how Christmas is celebrated in Spain, by using the template, describe the holidays.


Lesson 5 (Activity 2). Christmas Tradition.
Pupils write a letter about how Christmas is celebrated in Spain (in groups of five) by using the information which have brought each one of the members of the group, then, they ask to their Irish classmates about their Christmas, template is provided.

Lesson 6 (Conclusion). Christmas Silly Sentences.

Students have a template like this one, they must pick one word of each column, once they have made the sentence, they have to draw it.


Lesson 7 (Warmer). Choose your country.

Every group choose a representative, this person must find around the class the country which they are going to work with.

Lesson 7 (Activity 1). Day of the dead. 

Elaborate a work to remember someone alive or dead (bring a picture of that person, as in the film)

Lesson 7 (Activity 2) Cultures. 
Each group has a country, investigate how is the day of the dead is celebrated on that country Chromebook, speak aloud and take notes about similarities and differences.

Lesson 7. (Conclusion). Favourite Day of the dead.

Children write on a piece of paper his/her favourite country tradition, teacher puts all the comments on a jar, they count the answer and get the favourite chosen by majority of them.

Lesson 8 (Warmer). 

Types of films. Brainstorming about different types of films.

Lesson 8. (Activity 1). Listening

Groups Work, research types of films using Chromebook (ICT), share them with the other groups and check if you have written the same as them.


Lesson 8 (Conclusion). Favourite type of film.

All students write his/her favourite type of film and three reasons why it's his/her favourite, children put all paper on a box and the helper of the day reads them, they must try to guess who belong whom.

Lesson 9. (Warmer). A little Crazy

Learners listen to this song while dancing.

Final Task: 1. Musical. 

Using the app Lyricstraining, in groups, rewrite Coco’s song. Then, learners recreate the musical which contain dancers, singers and actors (three groups). Teacher provides them the main idea of every part; these scenes contain all the vocabulary they have learned. Camera. Action!

Lesson 9 (Conclusion). Play

As we will record the musical, they will watch it.
