Emoji
As same as in the previous Unit, students have a Challenge. They must watch this movie at home (in English) and summarise the film in a piece of paper.
Lesson 1 (Warmer).
Let’s share. In groups, students must put in
common the ideas they have collected. They must rewrite the common ideas and
then read them aloud in front of the class.
Lesson 1 (Activity 1). Emoticons’ description. Write on a piece of paper five emoticons that describe yourself.
Lesson 1 (Activity 2). Change. Swap your paper with another classmate and try to guess the meaning of the message.
Lesson 1 (Activity 3). Secret Emoji Code. Teacher gives you a classmate's name, write something beautiful about him/her (open-ended task)
Lesson 1
(Conclusion). Let’s make a flower. Teacher draw a flower
without petals, students must draw a petal each time they watch a good action
between their classmates.
Lesson 2 (Warmer). Emoji-idioms. Students try to
guess some idioms they have already learned years ago through emoticons.

Pre-reading
(TAVI). English sentence
analysis: Small acts of kindness will be rewarded greatly. In groups, learners
analyse this sentence, guess the meaning by searching on the internet some
unknown word and what they think is the text about.
Post-reading
(TASP). Once learners have
written the sentences, they should swap them with other team and try to guess
other team words.
Lesson 2
(Conclusion). Bamboozle. Using this app students will answer some questions about
the reading in groups, ICT.
Lesson 3 (Warmer). Emoji Role. During this
lesson students will get a different emoji role, teacher hand them out (angry,
happy, surprise, sad, excited, singer, dancer…). The winner gets point for
Class Dojo, but this person or people must be keeping this role during all the lesson.
Lesson 3 (Activity 1). The danger of technology. Watch this video
Lesson 3 (Activity 2). Slogan. In groups of five, students create a slogan warning about the danger of technology at home, this slogan should contain a representative emoticon (WordArt). Learners vote for the best slogan and this will be the hashtag they will use to represent this problem, they can upload some sentences, solutions, images and key words to the school blog to make their students aware of this problem.
Lesson 3 (Activity 3). Performance. During the first activity in whole group, we will be discussing and describing some situations where technologies suppose a problem between families. They will recreate a small speech (1/2 minutes, each learner has a role: two speeches, two text writers and one controller). We will upload these videos to our classroom Vlog and people will comment us by using the previous hashtag.
Lesson 3
(Conclusion). Who are you? As same as in the movie, you have been a different person
during all the lesson, now you have to write on a piece of paper who you really
are, describing yourself. Then, read it aloud in front of your classmates.
Lesson 4 (Warmer).
Spain Picture. Students watch a
picture about Spain, each group must say 10 things in 10 minutes that represent
this country.
Lesson 4 (Activity 1). WhatsApp Project. Learners write the script
they are going to send to their Ireland classmates following the teacher’s
template and then, they record themselves by using Chromebooks.
Lesson 4 (Conclusion). Emoji Translator. In groups, learners use this website to create some messages, the rest of the class try to guess it.
Lesson 5 (Warmer).
Physical Line. Students are divided
in five groups, each one has a different sentence and each one of the members
of the groups has a word which complete the sentence, they have to line up in
order to make sense the sentence.
Lesson 5 Grammar Project.
Activity 1. Emoji prompts. Whole Class, create a crazy story, one pupil says a sentence with the emoji that appears.
Activity 2. Board Game Verbs. Groups, play this game, practice the past tense (verbs).
Lesson 5
(Conclusion). What comes next? Students watch this
image and they have to guess the theme of the next lesson.
Lesson 6 (Warmer). Open your ears. Pupils listen to this song:
They must write all the peace words they are going
to listen to this song. + Lyricstraning to check the words learned.
School Day of Nonviolence and Peace (eTwinning).
Activity 1. The wish. In Groups, record using Chromebooks (ICT) saying three desires for peace.
2. Postcard. Write a list of solutions to achieve the previous wishes. Everything is sent to their Irish classmates; they receive other wishes and solutions
Learners upload their videos to the class’s Vlog and they can comment their classmates’ videos by using this hashtag #IWANTPEACE
Before writing the postcard, they have to
analyse one. Instead of adding a picture of a place, they have to draw how it
would be its ideal world (full of peace).
Lesson 6. Conclusion.
Phonics Project /ð/. 1. Listening
Time. Listen to
the words you are going to learn, the second time one of the words won´t be
pronounced (brother, father, mother, there…)
Lesson 7 (Warrmer). Sing a song. Sing this song three times (1. dance,
2. sing, 3. sing and dance).

Lesson 7. Speaking
Record Time Project. Quiz Show. Five
groups, teacher prepares twenty-five questions about the danger of technology,
peace key words and past tense verbs. Teacher numbers the groups, they ask
following the order. Students have ten cards per group (potions and spells)
they can use them. Questions using Socrative. The winner is the team who
has been talking in English the most, points for Class Dojo.
Lesson 7 (Conclusion). Spelling Race. In pairs, pupils spell the words as
fast as they can, the other child may guess it (brother, mother…)
Lesson 8 (Warmer). Two Truths and a lie. In groups, learners write two truths and a lie (this could be related to
the English subject or about school, classroom…), in whole group learners try
to discover the lie.
Lesson 8 (Activity 1). Emoticons’ summary. Individual task. Choose a book, then, make a report of the story and use some emoticons to help yourself to express what is the story about. These emoticons will turn into words which represent what the protagonists feel.
Lesson 8 (Activity 2). eTwinning. In groups, pupils choose one of the protagonists of the story and summarise the story by using Voki, then, send it to their Irish classmates. Learners receive Irish’s reviews, they try to guess the book, if it is too difficult, they can get clues to guess it.
Lesson 8 (Conclusion). Zoom in. Teacher shows a small part of a cover book, learners
try to guess it, teacher will be showing more and more parts of the book cover,
the first pupil in guessing it get points for Class Dojo.
Lesson 9 (Warmer). Valentine’s Day. Teacher sticks a list of emoticons flashcards on the
blackboard, then the students close their eyes and teacher takes one flashcard,
students must remember which card was there, the game has finished when all the
flashcards are gone but children must remember the order and the name of these
emoticons (vocabulary related to Valentines).
Lesson 9. Final Task: Films Escape Room. In pairs, learners try to rescue the hidden
characters by realising some challenges (made with Genially) related to
the vocabulary seen in this unit and the grammar, they will be able to rescue
the characters only if they discover the films. Chromebook (ICT), gamification
activity.
